Personal information request privacy notice

The use of the personal information request online form is subject to the following privacy notice.

This privacy notice contains important information in relation to submitting a personal information request application through the online form.

Personal information

Personal information is defined in the Privacy Act 1988 as information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable:

  • whether the information or opinion is true or not
  • whether the information or opinion is recorded in a material form or not.

Collection, use and disclosure of personal information

Defence collects personal information through the personal information request online form.

The information is collected for the purpose of establishing the rights of access to the subject matter of the personal information being sought.

For applications to be accepted it is mandatory for the minimum required information to be provided. If this information is not provided the application will not be successful.

Defence Privacy Policy

The Defence Privacy Policy contains general information about the different types of personal information collected by Defence and how individuals can request access to, or correction of, their personal information.

The Policy also provides advice about how to raise potential breaches of privacy with Defence.
