Haberfield Army Reserve Depot

The former Haberfield Army Reserve Depot is surplus to Defence requirements. The property will be divested in accordance with the Commonwealth Property Disposal Policy.

The property is 1.9 hectare located at 140A Hawthorne Parade in the suburb of Haberfield, Sydney.

Defence has been working collaboratively with representatives of Inner West Council (Council) that will enable a 22 lot subdivision of the site, including 21 lots for future residential development, and one further lot to be transferred to Council for community open space.

In January 2022, Defence completed all necessary due diligence to address possible alternate uses for the site in accordance with the CPDP. No viable alternate use suggestions were made or identified.

Updates

In October 2024, the Minister for Finance approved the sale of the site for future residential development.

Defence intends to appoint an experienced marketing agent to sell available lots on the open-market in early 2025. Defence will proceed to divest the single lot to Inner West Council for increased public open space and community amenity.

Defence is committed to maintaining and preserving the security and integrity of the site until it transitions from Commonwealth ownership.
