Defence has a number of bases and weapons ranges around Australia where flying activities and operations are carried out.
Air Force bases
The following are main operating bases, which are permanently manned locations with a schedule of frequent flying activities. The associated weapons ranges and areas of restricted access used for live weapons military training.
- RAAF Base Amberley including Evans Head Air Weapons Range
- RAAF Base Tindal including Delamere Air Weapons Range
- RAAF Base Williamtown including Salt Ash Air Weapons Range
The following are forward operating bases, which are secured positions used to conduct tactical military flying operations on a regular basis.
- RAAF Base Darwin including Bradshaw Field Training Area
- RAAF Base Townsville
- HMAS Albatross
The following are forward operating bare bases, which have no permanent aircraft but are designed to be fully operational with little or no notice. Flying activity depends on the status of the base, however when activated there may be significant numbers of aircraft.
The following are training bases, which are used for flying training on a regular basis.
