About the base

Navy's premier training establishment where around 6,000 personnel are trained annually. Schools here include Recruit School, School of Sea Survivability, Physical Training Instructor School, Defence Force School of Signals and the Engineering Faculty.

Access

Not permitted to bring domesticated or feral animals (assistance dogs excluded) onto the base under any circumstances.

Only registered vehicles are allowed through the access control point.

Victoria Barracks Melbourne

About the base

Victoria Barracks Melbourne is the Department of Defence administrative centre. Site activities are limited to predominantly office/administration.

Access

Only authorised vehicles allowed on site. There is no visitor parking for private plated vehicles. Requests for business related parking can be made by contacting Access Control: vtaccesscontrol.vbm@defence.gov.au.

Simpson Barracks

About the base

Predominately a Forces Command training base supporting Defence Force School of Signals (tri-service technicians and operators of information, communication, and electronic warfare systems), Defence Force School of Music (tri-service musicians) and Army Education Centre. In addition, Headquarters 4th Brigade (Victoria's reserve Brigade) and Headquarters Australian Army Cadets Victoria operate from the site.

RAAF Point Cook and RAAF Williams Laverton

About the base

RAAF Base ​Point Cook is the birthplace of the Australian Flying Corps and the Royal Australian Air Force and home to the RAAF Museum. Point Cook was established in March 1913 as the location for the Central Flying School and has the oldest continually operating military airfield in the southern hemisphere.

RAAF East Sale

About the base

A major Defence enabler of Basic Flying (Fixed Wing Aircraft) Training for all three services.

The base plays a major role in training the next generation of Air Force personnel under the Air Academy and new Air Force officers at the Officer's Training School, plus is home base for the Roulettes aerobatic display.

Access

All visitors must report to the Pass Office before entering the base.

Puckapunyal Military Area

About the base

First used as a mobilisation and training area during World War 1. By 1939, the area was formally established as Puckapunyal Camp and military activity in the area began in the early 1940s. The camp's name was derived from the name of a large hill within the field training area, today known as Mount Puckapunyal. There is some uncertainty about the origins of the word ‘Puckapunyal’, the most common explanation being that is an aboriginal word meaning “Among the Hills”.

Access

All vehicles coming on-site must visually and legibly display their name and mobile contact number on the vehicle dashboard.

No cameras or video recording devices to be used on site.

Domestic animals are not allowed on site.

Speed limit is 20km/h throughout the base unless otherwise signposted.

Defence Plaza Melbourne

About the base

Site activities are limited to predominantly office/administration. It is located in Melbourne CBD, the nearest train station Southern Cross Station.

Access

Only authorised vehicles allowed on site. There is no visitor parking at Defence Plaza Melbourne for private plated vehicles. Requests for business related parking can be made by contacting Access Control segservicedeliverysezaccesscontrol.vbm@defence.gov.au.

Albury Wodonga Military Area

The Albury Wodonga Military Area (AWMA) consists of 3 barracks:

  • Gaza Ridge Barracks (North and South Bandiana)
  • Wadsworth Barracks (East Bandiana)
