Home to various squadrons and schools involved in areas such as contingency response, expeditionary health, security and combat survival.

Access

On arrival you must present your Defence Common Access Card at the Access Control Point located on Ingham Road (at the Pilkington Street intersection).

Road rules

Speed limit is 40 km/h throughout the base unless otherwise signposted and is not to exceed ​10 km/h when overtaking formed military members.

RAAF Tindal

About the base

RAAF Base Tindal is home to 17 Squadron, 2 Squadron Detachment, 452 Squadron Tindal Flight, Joint Health Unit, 2 Expeditionary Health Squadron Detachment, NORFORCE, and Joint Military Police Unit Darwin – Tindal Detachment. 87SQN also have personnel located here. The SADFO and BM remit covers Delamere Air Weapons Range which is under the management of AFTRSQN.

No. 75 Squadron (81 Wing, Air Combat Group) also call RAAF Base Tindal home with their fleet of Australian F-35A Lightning-II (Joint Strike Fighters).

RAAF Scherger

About the base

This ‘forward facing’ base is designed so that operational units can move into existing facilities at little or no notice in the event of a crisis or for Defence exercises.

Access

Access to the base is to be coordinated through the RAAF Townsville Air Base Command Post (ABCP).

Visitors and contractors must sign in and out of the base via the register located at the RAAF Caretaker’s Office.

As the site is remote, a mobile number must be provided on the sign in sheet in the event of an emergency.

RAAF Point Cook and RAAF Williams Laverton

About the base

RAAF Base ​Point Cook is the birthplace of the Australian Flying Corps and the Royal Australian Air Force and home to the RAAF Museum. Point Cook was established in March 1913 as the location for the Central Flying School and has the oldest continually operating military airfield in the southern hemisphere.

RAAF Learmonth

About the base

The Base was established in the 1950s to provide support for land, air and sea operations aimed at securing Australia's northern approaches.

Access

ADF and civilian personnel wishing to visit RAAF Base Learmonth who are not part of a deployment or exercise, are to request approval for the visit. Please email pea.abcp@defence.gov.au to request a Combat Support Group Visit Request form.

RAAF East Sale

About the base

A major Defence enabler of Basic Flying (Fixed Wing Aircraft) Training for all three services.

The base plays a major role in training the next generation of Air Force personnel under the Air Academy and new Air Force officers at the Officer's Training School, plus is home base for the Roulettes aerobatic display.

Access

All visitors must report to the Pass Office before entering the base.

RAAF Darwin

About the base

An operational joint civil-military airfield. The base has administrative, accommodation, recreational and operational support facilities as well as technical workshops, aircraft hardstands and aircraft pavements.

In addition to civil aircraft operations, the airfield supports both Australian and international military aircraft operations.

Access

All vehicles are to access the base via the Main Gates located at Amaroo Road (off Stuart Highway) unless otherwise directed.

RAAF Curtin

About the base

Provide support for land, air and sea operations aimed at securing Australia’s northern approaches.

Access

Airside access to authorised person only. Airside boundaries are indicated by red boundary line. Site specific airside awareness training is required prior to access.

RAAF Amberley

About the base

RAAF Amberley is the Air Force's largest base, employing over 5,000 people working in training, contingency response, healthcare, communications and other areas.

Access

Visitors must report at Pass Office on Southern Amberley Road to collect their Visitor Identification Card (VIC) to gain entry. Defence Common Access Card (DCAC) holders from another base can email the Pass Office to activate swipe entry before visiting.​

Larrakeyah Defence Precinct

About the base

Larrakeyah Defence Precinct (LDP) Base Support Area (BSA) includes, Larrakeyah, HMAS Coonawarra & Defence Establishment Berrimah (DEB). The BSA also encompasses the following operational & non-operational satellite sites; Howard Springs North & South, Humpty Doo Transmitting Station, Defence Fuel Installation (Stokes Hill) & East Coonawarra.
