The Defence Estate consists of property, facilities and infrastructure that enables Defence people to do their jobs and deliver capability.

Defence has a responsibility to comply with relevant Australian legislation, regulations and standards. Defence must ensure that the estate is safe and fit for purpose.

Defence also aims to protect places of significant biodiversity, military heritage and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, and is focused on minimising environmental impacts and building climate resilience within the estate.

Defence has in place estate regulations, policies and procedures that, through a complex system of processes, documents and tools, support the delivery of innovative services and a modern and sustainable estate capability.
