Better Practice Guides (BPGs) should be considered better practice guidance for Defence staff undertaking procurement activities. BPGs do not contain mandatory procurement policy,

Feedback and comment on the BPGs are welcomed and should be forwarded to procurement.policy@defence.gov.au.

  • The Collaborative Contracting BPG assists Defence personnel to determine when, and how, to implement collaborative contracting approaches and is designed to promote and facilitate the conduct of better practice by Defence. Collaborative Contracting approaches involve using contractual and non-contractual mechanisms to allow the parties to the contract to work together in good faith to achieve common outcomes by focussing on solving problems, managing risk equitably, promoting transparency and avoiding disputes.
  • The Tender Evaluation in Complex Procurement BPG assists Defence personnel to understand some of the key issues to consider and decisions to be made when planning and conducting tender evaluations in complex Defence procurements.
