Facilities to support Short Range Ground Based Air Defence

Overview

The Facilities to support LAND 19 Phase 7B Short Range Ground Base Air Defence project is delivering works at RAAF Base Edinburgh. The base is located approximately 25 km from the Adelaide central business district in South Australia.

The aim of the project is to provide facilities and infrastructure to support Defence capability, acquired under the LAND 19 Phase 7B Short Range Ground Based Air Defence Capability project.

Community information

Defence recognises the importance of consulting with local residents, statutory authorities and other interested stakeholders on the project.

In 2021, Defence held community information forums to provide the community with an opportunity to find out information about the project and ask questions.

Project element Description
Site-wide engineering infrastructure

Includes:

  • upgrading high and low voltage power 
  • sewerage 
  • water and stormwater 
  • information and communication technology 
  • security and civil works
  • contamination remediation.
Regimental headquarters and training facility Construct new multi-purpose building to accommodate command and training functions.
Battery facilities Construct new ‘mirror image’ buildings to provide working accommodation for personnel and undercover storage for vehicles and equipment.
Combat service support battery headquarters, workshops and repair parts store

Facility to include:

  • office space 
  • workshop areas
  • storage capacity.
Quartermaster’s store

Facility to include:

  • office space 
  • workshop areas
  • storage capacity.
Regimental transport facility

Facility to include:

  • office space 
  • workshop areas
  • storage capacity.
Living-in accommodation Construct accommodation for personnel.

Defence may deliver the following additional works, based on approval and funding.

Site-wide engineering infrastructure

Includes:

  • upgrade the existing on-base access roads to the new facilities to accommodate the movement of the Regiment’s heavy vehicles
  • construct light vehicle car parking for use by the Regiments’ personnel, and visitors
  • duplicate an existing high voltage cable to provide additional electrical capacity
  • provide local emergency power generation
  • additional hydraulic services.
Regimental headquarters and training facility Construct an open training and wet weather training shelter adjacent to the Regimental Headquarters and Training facility.
Battery facilities

Construct an additional access road to the proposed compound.

Combat service support battery headquarters, workshops and repair parts store
  • Extend gantry coverage to all vehicle maintenance bays
  • Extend roof overhang around perimeter of facility.
Quartermaster’s Store
  • Extend the hardstand along western perimeter of the facility
  • Extend roof overhang around perimeter of facility.
