On 30 November 2023, the Secretary of the Department of Defence and the Chief of the Defence Force announced the launch of the Defence Culture Strategy: Defence Culture Blueprint Program 2023.
The strategy provides clear direction on how culture will evolve within Defence through the vision, strategic objectives and Defence Culture Framework contained within it.
The strategy is the foundational document for the Defence Culture Blueprint program, and sets Defence's culture vision, "A culture that values its people and serves to defend Australia".
The strategy sets out 6 aspirational strategic objectives:
- Defence prioritises people and culture to deliver on the Defence mission.
- Defence is aligned and connected in driving cultural change.
- Defence is diverse and inclusive.
- Defence culture contributes positively to individual, team, and organisational resilience and wellbeing.
- Defence values the contribution of ADF, APS and industry in achieving the Defence mission.
- Defence is recognised by the government and the public as a trusted national institution.
The Defence Culture Blueprint program forms part of the implementation of the Defence Strategic Review 2023.
The strategy is informed by extensive research and consultation and builds on Pathway to Change 2017-2022.
