8 December 2022

This week Defence participated in the annual Combined Space Operations (CSpO) Initiative Principals Board, hosted by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and New Zealand Ministry of Defence.

CSpO is comprised of representatives from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. CSpO continues to improve cooperation, coordination, and interoperability to promote space security.

At this event, Defence leaders emphasised the need to continue to promote responsible behaviours in space and ensure our national security space operations support a secure and stable space domain.

Chief of Air Force and Space Domain Lead, Air Marshal Robert Chipman, AM, CSC said the meeting reinforced the importance of a collaborative approach to ensure continued space access.

“Australia, our allies and international partners recognise that collaboration is a key element of our competitive advantage,” Air Marshal Chipman said.

“During this event, senior Defence leaders highlighted the importance of increased sharing of critical space information among member countries.”
