The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) today welcomed thousands of prospective trainee officers, their family and friends, and members of the local community to the Open Day.
Australia’s tri-service military training institution opens its doors each year in August for the public to tour the campus, talk to midshipmen and officer cadets about life and study at the Academy and view exciting demonstrations and displays by the Navy, Army and Air Force.
Commandant of ADFA, Air Commodore Jules Adams, said the Academy was an excellent pathway for those considering a military career.
“ADFA prepares future leaders of the Australian Defence Force by combining military and leadership training with a world-class university education from UNSW - Canberra,” she said.
“Open Day is a great opportunity for potential applicants and their families to have all their questions answered about ADFA and chat to current serving members about where a career in the military can take them.”
In addition to learning about the unique leadership and military training on offer at the Academy, Open Day is also an opportunity to learn more about the array of undergraduate university degrees available through UNSW Canberra.
Professor Emma Sparks, Rector of UNSW Canberra, said the currency of programs, low student to teacher ratios and excellence in research and teaching made UNSW Canberra programs highly sought after.
“UNSW Canberra continues to grow and adapt its degree streams to offer highly relevant programs across the breadth of arts, humanities, business, science and engineering ensuring that learners are prepared for the significant pace of change we see across the defence ecosystem,” Professor Sparks said.
The Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) also used the Open Day to showcase their capabilities and other career opportunities within the Australian Defence Force. The displays included Navy clearance divers and helicopters, the Army Parachute Display Team and military vehicle displays, with spectacular aerobatics from a RAAF Roulette and the ever popular military aircraft fly pasts.
