Cadet excellence on show

27 May 2025

A group of 30 high-performing cadets converged on Canberra from May 16 to 18 to take part in the third annual ADF Triservice Leadership Summit.

The event provided cadets from across Australia with a rewarding leadership development opportunity that focused on triservice collaboration.

Cadets were introduced to ethical leadership principles, worked together in teams, engaged in discussions with Defence senior leaders, took part in the Last Post ceremony at the Australian War Memorial and attended a formal dinner.

Cadet Under Officer (CUO) Laura Davidson, of the Australian Air Force Cadets, said participants experienced professional and personal development through a range of leadership activities.

“I found the summit to be really enjoyable. It’s fascinating to work with other cadets from all over Australia,” CUO Davidson said.

“We’ve learnt about leadership, customs and military history, as well as meeting with very important Defence senior leaders.

“Hearing the Defence leaders’ individual leadership experiences was really inspiring.”

Head of Reserve and Cadet Support Division Major General Douglas Laidlaw said the event aimed to inspire, equip and develop youth to contribute to society through safe, positive and meaningful activities.

“The summit provides the opportunity for young people to come together to learn new life skills, make new friends and reach their full potential within a contemporary and safe environment,” Major General Laidlaw said.

“Cadets participated in activities which aimed to build their sense of belonging and connection within the ADF and their cadet communities, and enhance cross-generational and cross-cultural communication.”
