The 2025 Sailor of the Year program has recognised the outstanding service of eight sailors across the fleet.
The nominees were chosen as their daily actions positively contribute to the success of Navy’s mission.
Petty Officer Electronics Technician Stephanie Horswood won the program and thanked her HMAS Supply family for their support and nominating her.
“I am incredibly honoured and humbled to be announced Sailor of the Year,” Petty Officer Horswood said.
“Serving as a technical sailor on board HMAS Supply has been challenging and rewarding.
“This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of not just myself, but my team and the entire crew.
“Navy has provided me with incredible opportunities to grow, lead and contribute to fleet capability and I’m proud to represent the many skilled and hardworking sailors who make a difference every day.”
'This is a fantastic opportunity to represent my peers, contribute to key discussions and help shape the future of our Navy.'
Sailor of the Year program lead Warrant Officer of the Navy (WO-N) Andrew Bertoncin emphasised the importance of recognising Navy’s people.
“I am energised by these outstanding sailors, their stories of contemporary service, their belief in what they do, their aspiration to improve the wellbeing of our workforce and their desire to live up to the legacy of those who served before them,” WO-N Bertoncin said.
“Our sailors are the engine that generates the force that makes the propeller turn, which keeps the machine informed, connected, fed, maintained and lethal.
“Sailors make what Navy does safe, sustainable and achievable.
“To the finalists’ supervisors, commands, instructors, mentors, shipmates, and most importantly, to their families who provide the love and support that allows these sailors to do their jobs – thank you.”
During 2025, program finalists will form a Sailor Advisory Council, providing their views to Navy senior leaders on contemporary service issues.
“I am especially looking forward to working alongside WO-N and the other participants as part of the Sailor Advisory Council,” Petty Officer Horswood said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to represent my peers, contribute to key discussions and help shape the future of our Navy.
“I’m excited to collaborate with such a passionate and talented group, ensuring that sailors’ voices continue to be heard at all levels.”
