Air Vice-Marshal Wendy Blyth was named the new patron of ADF Netball, just in time for International Women’s Day, strengthening the women’s sporting community.

ADF Netball president Wing Commander Jacqueline Carswell said it would help to increase recognition of women in the ADF through the avenue of sport.

“Securing a female patron for ADF Netball puts us on a path to better highlight the strength of female leadership and the opportunities that netball offers to a diverse community of women and men,” Wing Commander Carswell said.

Air Vice-Marshal Blyth is a highly respected and accomplished leader within the ADF, and her involvement in ADF Netball will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration to the netball community. She is a strong advocate for gender equality and believes that netball is a sport that is open to everyone, regardless of gender.

“Being a part of any sporting community is a privilege,” Air Vice-Marshal Blyth said.

“As patron, I am excited to be able to support the ADF netballers and have a voice to represent them. Netball is a sport that is open to everyone, regardless of gender, and it’s about skill and athleticism, not gender.”

Netball is arguably the biggest participation sport in Australia, and as the ADF continues to push to grow its numbers, it is important that they offer opportunities and differentiate themselves as an employer.

“I hope that my involvement will help to inspire more women and men to get involved in the sport and to see the value in what it can offer.”
