Aviation technician aircraft Able Seaman Georgia Spulnik-Ross has been recognised as one of Australian Defence Magazine’s (ADM) 30 under 30 recipients for 2025.
Able Seaman Spulnik-Ross was honoured for her technical expertise, proactive approach to problem-solving, and commitment to excellence in her field.
The ADM 30 Under 30 Awards, held in Canberra, celebrate young professionals in Defence and related industries who demonstrate outstanding leadership, initiative and a dedication to supporting others through mentoring, volunteering and being a role model.
Able Seaman Spulnik-Ross expressed her surprise and gratitude on receiving the award.
“I feel so appreciated by the recognition and support from leaders within the Fleet Air Arm and the organisation as a whole,” she said.
“It gives me that affirmation of, ‘Hey Georgia, look, you’re doing a good job! Be proud of yourself’.”
The judging panel highlighted Able Seaman Spulnik-Ross’s leadership skills, citing a recent incident when she identified an error while servicing the landing struts of an MH-60R helicopter.
She proactively engaged in the subsequent safety investigation, reinforcing a strong safety culture within her unit.
A senior officer praised her initiative, noting her approach had a lasting positive impact on her team’s attitude towards safety and accountability.

Able Seaman Spulnik-Ross emphasised the importance of teamwork, continuous learning and emotional intelligence in her role.
“Accountability, confidence and strong interpersonal skills are key,” she said.
“It’s also about connecting with others through empathy and understanding.”
Drawn to the Navy by her love for cars, mechanics and a desire for challenging work, she hoped to inspire the next generation of young leaders.
“My advice is to back yourself; trust in your abilities, take the leap and see where it takes you,” Able Seaman Spulnik-Ross said.
“The opportunities are endless.
“Don’t doubt your ability to make a difference; your voice is more powerful than you think.”
She also spoke to the value of emerging leaders in shaping a dynamic and resilient workforce.
“Young leaders bring fresh perspectives shaped by diverse backgrounds and experiences, making the workforce more adaptable, and inspiring others to do the same,” Able Seaman Spulnik-Ross said.
“This is so important in an ever-changing social environment. Our people are our priority, and young leaders play a vital role in reinforcing that mindset.”
