Navy Recruit School sizzles for children in need

12 February 2025

Iconic Australian institutions combined for a good cause when members of the Royal Australian Navy Recruit School ran a Bunnings sausage sizzle at Hastings in Victoria to support the Living the Dream Foundation.

Recruit School instructor and event organiser Leading Seaman Lachlan Bucknell said the event was a great success and well attended by the local community.

“This is the first time Recruit School has undertaken this kind of initiative and we were eager to make a positive impact in the community as well as support such a great organisation,” Leading Seaman Bucknell said.

The Living the Dream Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides engagement activities for vulnerable at-risk children, giving them access to an environment where they can feel welcomed, safe and empowered.

The sausage sizzle was the latest in a series of Recruit School fundraising activities in support of the foundation, including raffles and charity runs.

Funds raised will go towards supporting children in need to live their lives to the fullest, regardless of the challenges they face.

Leading Seaman Bucknell said the participating students and staff set an inspiring example in their support of those in need, as well as the local community of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

“The enthusiasm and dedication of the Navy personnel who participated in the sausage sizzle was really inspiring,” he said.

“Their eagerness to give back to the community and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are less fortunate was heart-warming and demonstrated their deep commitment to supporting those in need.

“The sausage sizzle was also more than just a fundraising event; it was an opportunity for Navy to connect with the local community and to demonstrate their commitment to giving back.

“The event proved to be a fun and memorable day, full of laughter, good food and a shared sense of purpose.”
