Soldiers and officers from more than 30 units across the country spent three weeks at Irwin Barracks, 13th Brigade, preparing for deployment to Rifle Company Butterworth (RCB) in Malaysia.
Addressing the contingent, Commander 13th Brigade Brigadier Brett Chaloner said he was grateful to all the members who volunteered for RCB Rotation 142.
“You are contributing to the security and stability of Australia, our region and our partner nations,” Brigadier Chaloner said.
“You are military diplomats and ambassadors for the Australian Army and the Australian Defence Force.
“Build relationships, be curious and squeeze every experience out of this incredible deployment.”
Australia has a strong and longstanding relationship with Malaysia. The ADF has maintained a presence at the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base Butterworth since 1970 as guests of Malaysia, under the auspices of the geo-strategic Five Power Defence Agreement.
As part of RCB Rotation 142, personnel will also conduct training with the Singapore Army, in Singapore.
The contingent’s training activities will focus on live-fire serials, jungle-warfare tactics, techniques and procedures, as well as urban warfare.
