The winners of Defence’s WA Employer Support Awards have been announced, recognising civilian West Australian employers for continued support to their ADF reservist employees.
The event was held in September at 10 Light Horse Regiment, Irwin Barracks in Perth, and included performances by the Royal Australian Navy Band WA and a range of ADF capability displays by Navy, Amy and Air Force units.
ADF Reserves and Employer Support WA regional engagement manager Lieutenant Commander Brett Lane said a record 69 WA reservists nominated their employers for awards this year.
“That so many ADF members made the effort to nominate their employers indicates the depth and importance of support in reservists’ civilian workplaces right across the community,” Lieutenant Commander Lane said.
“The Employer Support Awards are just one way in which we, both Defence and reservists, show our appreciation for those dedicated employers who are going above and beyond for their reservists.”
Head Joint Support Services Division Major General Douglas Laidlaw hosted the awards event, which was attended by senior ADF officers and prominent WA business and community representatives.
“A reservist’s contribution is key to Defence’s mission and the civilian employers that release them to undertake reserve service are invaluable to both Defence and protecting our national interests,” Major General Laidlaw said.
“Western Australia has highlighted exemplary employers who are supporting reservists. We thank you for your contribution to Defence capability.”
Winners from the regional awards will now be considered for the national awards, to be held in Sydney in November.
