Despite the rainy forecast, five squadrons from RAAF Base Richmond joined forces for an ADF display and local community engagement at this year’s Hawkesbury Show.
Celebrating its 136th year, the show attracted about 40,000 people from April 28 to 30.
The interactive ADF display featured a C-130J Hercules engine from 37 Squadron, a Stryker Fire Truck from 22 Squadron, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal robot from 65 Squadron, an air drop cargo from Air Mobility Training and Development Unit, and the Australian Air Force Cadets.
Community Liaison Officer 22 Squadron Wing Commander Michael Stuart-Watt said the multiple squadrons participating emphasised an integrated ADF.
“It was a chance for RAAF Base Richmond to demonstrate the range of our base’s capabilities, while working in cohesion with one another,” Wing Commander Stuart-Watt said.
Held from April 28-30, the event brought ‘the country to the city’, showcasing agricultural displays from the Hawkesbury region, and providing a variety of entertainment, exhibits and competitions.
From the formation of the Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association in 1879, the show has been held at sites alongside RAAF Base Richmond since the base’s establishment in June 1925.
Wing Commander Stuart-Watt said the show was the primary annual opportunity for RAAF Base Richmond to engage with the local community.
“The Hawkesbury Show is a key event in the RAAF Base Richmond community engagement calendar,” he said.
“The base acknowledges the support the Hawkesbury region continues to provide.
“It was fantastic to engage with people and illustrate the resilience and integrated efforts of the ADF members, and hopefully encourage future applicants to consider the benefits of joining the ADF.”
