ADF driver at home in the flood clean-up

While it has been hard for Royal Australian Air Force Leading Aircraftman Morgan King to see his community devastated by floods, it has also been rewarding for him to assist in the relief and recovery effort.

Leading Aircraftman King grew up near the central-west NSW town of Eugowra, which was hit by severe flooding that destroyed or damaged the vast majority of homes and businesses last week.

Leading Aircraftman King drives one of the several Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles (PMVs) that are operating in support of Operation Flood Assist 2022-2, and said it was special to be in a position to help.

“We are providing flood recovery support to Eugowra and communities nearby, including using the PMVs to remove debris and destroyed vehicles,” Leading Aircraftman King said.

The PMVs and other high-clearance vehicles have been effective in accessing areas still inundated by water, moving critical supplies and personnel, and assisting with recovery tasks.

They were joined this week by an Australian Army engineer troop with heavy vehicles and plant equipment that began clean-up operations in Forbes.

About 200 ADF personnel continue to support state authorities across the central-west region of the state. They are working with communities including Eugowra, Parkes, Forbes, Condobolin, Molong, Corinella, Bedgerebong and Hillston.
