Cadet captain a good sport

Sport has played a big role in Pilot Officer Frances Di Carlo’s life while at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA).

The Hobart local graduated from the academy on December 6 and has been a keen netball and basketball player.

Besides her studies and military training, Pilot Officer Di Carlo played netball for the ADFA team and was a member of the ADFA Hawks women’s basketball team, which has been undefeated in the past two seasons.

As a Divisional Cadet Captain, Pilot Officer Di Carlo was responsible for leading 40 first-year trainee officers, showing them the ropes of life in the ADF.

Pilot Officer Di Carlo said she recommended the ADF to anyone.

“Go for it,” Pilot Officer Di Carlo said.

“The last three years have been rewarding and challenging and I would not change a thing.

“I have had countless opportunities to grow and become the person I want to be.

“I would recommend it to anybody eager. Do some research, chat to people. The world is your oyster.”

She said she was looking forward to returning home from the mainland to spend Christmas with family and friends in Hobart.

Pilot Officer Di Carlo hopes to be posted to RAAF Base Richmond, west of Sydney, to work on the RAAF’s Hercules C-130J transport aircraft.
