Committed to building sovereign capability

Through an in-house team of more than 60 experts, and investments in the latest technology and equipment, Rohde & Schwarz has been able to support its workforce to deliver the cutting-edge capability required by the Royal Australian Navy.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said companies like Rohde & Schwarz had formed the foundations of the National Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise.

“For over 40 years Rohde & Schwarz Australia has been investing in sovereign defence capabilities and infrastructure,” Ms Price said.

“It’s this investment in innovation and upskilling that will support the ongoing success of Australia’s sovereign shipbuilding sector and ultimately ensure the Navy receives the capability they require to fight and win at sea.”

Rohde & Schwarz Australia CEO Gareth Evans recognised that industry collaboration and a national approach to infrastructure was key to building regionally superior military capabilities.

“It’s important to understand that to have a regionally superior capability you need a regionally superior industry,” Mr Evans said.

“Rohde & Schwarz is the communications systems integrator for the United Kingdom’s Type 26 frigate program and we are bringing that expertise to Australia to build on what we already have, as part of the integrated project team for the Hunter-class frigate program.”

Rohde & Schwarz is also providing integrated communications systems for the six evolved Cape-class patrol boats and the extant external communications for the Hobart-class air warfare destroyers.

The company is also working with prime contractor Navantia on the Supply-class auxiliary oiler replenishment ships, and is at the forefront of naval electronic intelligence technology.

Rohde & Schwarz’s participation in the National Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise confirms that Australia has the capability to deliver world-class, cutting edge naval capabilities.
