In a show of friendship and support, the ADF stood alongside police during Police Remembrance Day services on the NSW-Victoria border.
On September 29, officers paused to remember those who have died in the line of duty.
In charge of the ADF’s border operations, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew White said members were invited to take part in services at a number of checkpoints during Operation COVID-19 Assist.
“We’ve been supporting our policing colleagues for several months and have developed a greater appreciation of the work they do and the pressures they face every day; so to be invited to be a part of this sacred day is very special for us,” Lieutenant Colonel White said.
At Buronga, on the Sturt Highway, Sergeant Brendan Fraser volunteered to lead a short service.
“I come from the Federation Guard. As ceremonial drill has been my job for the past three years, it was an honour to be able to lead the service,” Sergeant Fraser said.
Sturt Highway traffic was stopped while the Last Post and the Australian National Anthem were played, followed by one minute’s silence.
“It was incredibly touching. Today has indeed been one of the highlights of my career,” Sergeant Fraser said.
