Virtual comedy treat stirs real laughs

14 October 2020

Australian comedy legends Dave 'Hughesy' Hughes and Anthony 'Lehmo' Lehmann dropped in (virtually) to provide some Friday night fun for ADF members deployed to Victoria in support of Operation COVID-19 Assist.

Last month's event gave ADF members a chance to relax and connect while allowing both comedians the chance to stir up some friendly service rivalry.

Deputy Commander of the Joint Task Group in Victoria Colonel Catherine Carrigan said the entertainment was provided under the Forces Entertainment program, which has been providing entertainment for Australian troops deployed overseas since 1966.

"It was so great to join the event and Hughesy and Lehmo did such a fantastic job delivering the online laughs," Colonel Carrigan said.

"This was the first time in Australia that we have trialled the online Forces Entertainment event, with members tuning in from their accommodation for the video chat.

"Although the Forces Entertainment program is usually delivered to troops overseas, we wanted to acknowledge the great work of our members deployed in Melbourne and working in Stage 4 lockdown conditions."

Forces Entertainment newcomer Hughesy was in good hands with entertainment veteran Lehmo guiding the evening's entertainment.

"Lehmo is a long-term supporter of Forces Entertainment, having previously travelled overseas seven times with the program," Colonel Carrigan said.

"This was Hughesy's first time entertaining our members and I was especially pleased to hear that he would choose to join the Army if given the choice!"
