New South Wales and Queensland flood support

DMFS will continue to provide information, support and referral services to support the ADF community in managing and responding to the flooding in New South Wales and Queensland.

If you have questions about support available, or just want someone to talk to, our Defence Member and Family Helpline will continue to operate 24/7. Call 1800 624 608 or email memberandfamilyhelpline@defence.gov.au.

State financial support

Disaster Relief Grant — If your home or essential household items have been destroyed or damaged by a natural disaster, you may be eligible for a disaster relief grant. Call 13 77 88 and ask about the disaster relief grant administered by Resilience NSW.

Federal financial support

General Disaster Recovery Payment — $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child if your home has been severely damaged or destroyed, or you've been seriously injured.

Disaster Recovery Allowance — short-term income assistance (up to 13 weeks) if you've lost income as a direct result of the floods.

Visit Services Australia or call 180 22 66 to find out if you're eligible.

Other state support

SES: Contact SES on 132 500 from anywhere in NSW for non-life threatening flood assistance.

Service NSW Customer Care: Call 13 77 88 from Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm.

Clean-up: Waste levy waived for flood-affected areas. Council areas where the waste levy has been waived: Ballina Council, Bellingen Council, Byron Shire Council, Clarence Valley Council, Coffs Harbour Council, Hornsby Council, Kempsey Council, Kyogle Council, Lismore Council, Nambucca Council, Port Macquarie / Hastings Council, Richmond Council, The Hills Council and Tweed Council.

Eligible people can apply for the following commonwealth/state jointly funded financial assistance grants:
