Defence was approached by the Victorian Government to divest 13.1 hectares of Simpson Barracks for the North East Link Project. The land was sold in an off-market sale in accordance with the Commonwealth Property Disposal Policy.

On 17 December 2020, Defence completed the partial divestment of Simpson Barracks to the Victorian Government. Proceeds from the sale of the site will be reinvested to support Defence capability.
Partial Sale of Simpson Barracks
The Victorian Government and the North East Link Authority were responsible for the production of all relevant environmental and heritage assessments prior to the divestment of the portion of land.
