2022 Update
In February 2022, Defence civil works contractor’s commenced on-site works following construction permit approvals from Inner West Council (Council) in December 2021. More recently, Defence obtained permit approval to conduct works external to the site. Defence and Council will ensure the local community are informed of any intrusive or external works involving road and traffic impediments prior to their conduction, in accordance with Council’s permission and community notification timeframes.
Defence is progressing the civil works under a Council approved Development Application for a 22 lot residential subdivision. The scope of works involves; general maintenance upgrades, internal to the site, minor administrative items with Council and engineering works to address an upgrade of the internal and external storm water drainage system. Defence is committed to periodically maintaining and preserving the security and integrity of the site until it transitions from Commonwealth ownership. At this stage, Defence anticipates the full scope of the civil works, including certification and title registration, to be completed prior to end of FY22-23.
In January 2022, Defence and Department of Finance completed all due diligence to address possible alternate uses for the site in accordance with the Commonwealth Property Disposal Policy. No alternate suggestions were made.
Defence and Council are committed to remaining diligent and compliant with NSW Government restrictions to ensure safe social and work practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.
