Defence Economic Trends 2021 provides data released in 2021 from 30 economies with armed forces throughout the Indo-Pacific region. It illustrates the macroeconomic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout financial year 2020.

However, defence spending figures record official appropriations rather than actual or estimated actual spend. Only those budget figures proposed or enacted at the beginning of a fiscal year are recorded.

The Defence Economic Trends 2021 uses a revised methodology and recorded figures may differ from previous editions. North Korea has been removed due to insufficient data.
