Defence is maintaining a near-continuous Australian Defence Force (ADF) presence in the South West Pacific. The types of capabilities deployed in support of this presence change according to the needs of our Pacific partners. ADF activities can involve Navy’s survey ships, patrol boats and large-hulled vessels such as Canberra-Class Landing Helicopter Dock; Air Force aircraft; and Army personnel.
The establishment of the Pacific Support Team complements existing engagement under the long-standing Defence Cooperation Program, strengthening capacity and relationships in areas such as security operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and peacekeeping. This will be achieved through the provision of mobile training teams, as well as the contribution to other ADF operations and exercises.
