Via Operation Okra the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) is contributing to the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), an international coalition against Daesh in Iraq and Syria. Daesh is also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Australia's contribution is being closely coordinated with the Iraqi government, Gulf nations and the CJTF-OIR.

Australia’s current focus is on enhancing the capacity of the Iraqi Security Forces to prevent the resurgence of Daesh in Iraq. Despite being territorially defeated, Daesh continues to threaten our security interests. Australia will continue working closely with CJTF-OIR and the international community to achieve our shared goals of countering Daesh.

All ADF personnel who are part of Operation Okra are part of the Australian Joint Task Force 633 in the Middle East and include personnel in the Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) embedded in CTJF-OIR .

The Operation enjoyed great success in increasing the capability of the Iraqi Security Forces in Taji and the successful conclusion of the training contribution was announced in June 2020.
