Overview
The Teaching Pronunciation course (TPC) is part of the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages course series.
The course covers approaches and techniques for teaching the sounds of English, word stress, sentence stress and intonation, and the features of natural, connected speech. The course continues the development of Methodology of English Language Training (MELT) qualified teachers to enable them to teach pronunciation systematically and effectively.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the participants will be able to:
- Apply pronunciation/ phonology teaching principles
- Teach segmental and suprasegmental phonological features of English up to intermediate level
- Teach pronunciation effectively in integrated English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lessons up to intermediate level.
Prerequisites
- Minimum Australian Defence Force English Language Profiling System (ADFELPS) levels of S6, L6, R6, W6.
- The TPC is designed as an in-service course for DCP personnel who have already completed the DITC MELT course, who are currently classroom teachers, and who will continue to teach on completion of the TPC.
- Complete the Reception Period course.
