Public Policy Development and Communications course

Overview

The Public Policy Development and Communications course (PP) provides a practical grounding for course members to provide better public policy and advice on policy to senior decision makers. The focus of learning is on the developing skills, knowledge and attributes needed to provide accurate, timely, effective, and succinct advice (written and verbal) to Government.

The weekly sessions will comprise a series of presentations and interactive sessions.

The course is structured in two different levels, with a shorter, JPME Level 3 course conducted over 8 weeks and a JPME Level 4 course over 13 weeks. Sessions are conducted weekly, once a week from 18.30-20.00 at Australian Defence College in Weston Creek or on-line. There are routinely two courses per year – one from approx. March-June and another from August-November.  

Selection

While the courses are unclassified, participants do need a current baseline clearance.

Military and ADF APS

APS 4/5 or ADF E8/9 and O3/4 level for the shorter Level 3 course and at the APS6 to EL2 or O5/6 level for the Level 4 course. A DEFGRAM will be released up to four weeks prior to course commencement. Individuals are to submit their nominations directly to AWC IAW instructions on the DEFGRAM. Subject to space available and course composition needs AWC will accept some or all nominations.



Other Government Agencies (OGA)

Normally DFAT, Home Affairs, ESA. AWC will release a Call for Nominations circular to selected OGA. The OGA is requested identify and select candidates and provide prioritised lists to AWC IAW the IAW instructions on the circular. Subject to space available and course composition needs AWC will accept some or all nominations.

Defence Industry

This course is not open to Defence Industry.

International students

The course is not open to international students.
