Overview
The Joint Warrant Officer Course (JWOC) aims to provide an executive-level understanding of contemporary Defence issues at the strategic, operational and functional levels of command in order to prepare senior ADF Warrant Officers for Tier B & C joint leadership team appointments.
JWOC is designed around three modules: 1. Australia’s Strategic & Defence Environment (ASDE); 2. Joint Capability & Force Design (JCFD); and 3. Command, Leadership & Ethics (CLE).
Learning outcomes
Graduates of the course will gain an understanding of the current strategic and security environment, including an understanding of Defence policy, strategic posture, capability, leadership and ethical challenges and current and future challenges for Defence.
Selection
Military
ADF Enlisted Grade 9 (E-9) Tier A/B. Selection is made by relevant Service Career Management Agencies. Approved Service lists of nominations are provided to the ADC Admin Coordination Cell at adc.w.acc.admin@defence.gov.au. COMDT AWC, as the Joint Panelling Authority (JPA) will approve the panel.
ADF APS
JWOC has been deemed unsuitable for Defence APS staff.
Other Government Agencies (OGA) APS
Specific OGA will receive a formal invitation from COMDT AWC or COM ADC in accordance with the Joint Directive on Training signed between ADC and ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACTESA). The OGA are requested to identify and select suitable candidates and notify AWC per the formal invitation.
International students
International Engagement & Training (IE&T) Branch, International Policy Division (IP Div) of Defence coordinate panelling of DCP and other international students in accordance with the DEFGRAM. International students are selected by their Governments on invitation from Defence. Nominations are submitted through the relevant HoM to IE&T Desk Officers. IP Div/AWC will provide lists of nominated individuals to the ADC Admin Coordination Cell at adc.w.acc.admin@defence.gov.au.
Enrolment
AWC releases a DEFGRAM in April / May each year advising dates and calling for nominations.
