Overview

The English Teaching Development course (ETDC) is part of the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages course series.

The course aims to enhance the teaching skills of experienced English language teachers.

Participants gain an understanding of teaching general English as a foreign language to higher level students.

It provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to teach up to upper-intermediate advanced level.

This course is highly recommended for English language teaching course planners and for those in supervisory teacher roles.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, participants will achieve:

  • knowledge and skills for teaching English for specific purposes
  • development of teaching materials
  • management of training delivery including the supervision of teachers.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum Australian Defence Force English Language Profiling System levels S7, L7, R7, W7.
  • A minimum of 2 years post-MELT on-the-job teaching experience as a qualified and experienced teacher of English in countries participating in the Defence Co-operation Program or participating in bilateral agreements.
  • Complete the Reception Period course.
