Overview
The Defence Scholarship Familiarisation course (DSF) is designed to prepare candidates for the demands of tertiary study in an Australian environment.
The course introduces Defence Cooperation Program (DCP) students to a number of crucial skills necessary in an Australian post-graduate study context. It aims to familiarise students with academic writing and presentation skills, as well as conducting effective research, referencing essays, and avoiding plagiarism.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the participants will be able to:
- Take notes from audio or video-taped academic lectures
- Write a research-based essay that conforms to academic writing conventions
- Deliver an oral presentation based on a research paper
- Demonstrate a willingness to explore Australian culture, society, and the environment through participation in organised events.
Prerequisites
- Candidates must have been accepted on an Australian Post-Graduate course.
- Minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic entry levels prescribed by selected tertiary institutions.
