The Manual of Fire Protection Engineering (MFPE) describes Defence fire safety, standards and procedures that enable the application of fire safety engineering policy in support of Defence objectives.
Fire safety measures outlined in the MFPE are implemented to protect Defence personnel, assets and areas critical to the operation of military platforms in support of Australian Defence objectives.
MFPE Guidelines are provided to assist users with implementation of requirements related to fire safety strategies, fire surveys and fire safety inclusions in building design.
Guidelines
Fire Safety Management Strategy
This guideline provides guidance for the development of a Fire Safety Management Strategy (FSMS) when one is proposed for a Defence occupied building. The overall goal of this document is to provide consistency in process and documentation, related to FSMSs provided to Defence.
Fire Safety Surveys
This guideline details the requirements for completing a Fire Safety Survey (FSS). A FSS assesses the ongoing effectiveness of a buildings specific fire safety measures. It includes the technical and administrative requirements of conducting a FSS of Defence owned, leased for occupied buildings including Public Private Partnership arrangements.
MFPE Design Inclusions
This guideline provides a summary of the inclusions that need to be submitted through the design development stages of a building project to ensure that compliance with the MFPE and the Building Works Manual (BWM). It clarifies the minimum inclusions required by the MFPE and the BWM to enable the development of proposals that meet the reporting requirements through the design stages of a building project.
