Incident Reporting and Management Policy

The Incident Reporting and Management Policy (IRMPOL) includes guidance for all Defence personnel on what constitutes an incident and how incidents should be reported. The policy also provides guidance to managers and commanders on recording and managing reported incidents to ensure an effective, centralised incident recording system is maintained for accurate, efficient and timely reporting of incidents within Defence and externally.

Please note: the Incident Reporting and Management Policy is out of date and will be cancelled in September 2024. Where an inconsistency exists between IRMPOL and the requirements of Defence Instruction – Administrative and Governance Provision 4 - Incident Reporting and Management (AG4), always refer to AG4. Further guidance and requests for policy advice are available from Defence Integrity Division.
