Diversity and Inclusion
The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO) is committed to being an inclusive and culturally-aware organisation. A more diverse workforce supported by an inclusive culture enhances AGO’s capability and effectiveness, as it draws on different ideas to innovate and adapt to a rapidly-evolving strategic environment.
Building capability through inclusion is one of the six cultural reform priorities within the Department of Defence Pathway to Change: Evolving Defence Culture, which reiterates the importance of diversity for capability and performance.
Our inclusive workplace understands and respects differences such as:
- age
- caring responsibilities
- cultural background
- disability
- educational level
- ethnicity
- gender expression
- intersex status
- religious beliefs
- sexual orientation
- neurodiversity.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
The Department of Defence recognises that we live, work and train on the traditional lands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
For over a century, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have provided, and continue to provide, a vital and unique contribution to Defence capability, the defence of Australia and its national interests during times of peace and war.
Defence is strongly committed to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and reconciliation through its Defence Reconciliation Action Plan (PDF).
Defence’s strategies to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander socio-economic outcomes and to promote reconciliation include targeted employment pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Champions promoting diversity
Our senior executives play an important role as champions, providing leadership that creates a positive and inclusive workplace.
Staff support
AGO has a Diversity and Inclusion Working Group that meets on a regular basis for staff to voice and encourage action on diversity issues.
