Employment assistance

It is important for Australian Defence Force (ADF) members to prepare for a career after separation. Changing career is a significant step that benefits from early planning.

Job Search Preparation Workshop

The Job Search Preparation Workshop provides training on how to build a resume and how to apply for jobs, as well as ongoing access to an online library of resources.

The workshop is available either as a face-to-face 2 day workshop or virtually as 4 x 2 hour workshops.

Personalised Career and Employment Program

The Personalised Career and Employment Program includes 6 individual coaching sessions with an employment specialist over 3 months, providing career development and job placement support.

This program is for members who are 18-30 years old, have served for less than 4 years and have left the ADF for the following reasons:

  • administrative reasons
  • did not complete initial training
  • disciplinary reasons
  • injury or other medical reasons.

Career Transition Coaching Program

The Career Transition Coaching Program involves intensive specialist coaching to help identify motivators, skills and career options. Coaching aims to assist with the development of an employment plan, interview skills, a competitive resume, and the adjustment to the civilian employment environment.

The program includes lifetime access to an online employment and training resources portal.

Career Transition Training Program

The Career Transition Training Program provides a financial contribution of up to $5,320 towards training and upskilling. Support may also be available to help with travel to attend this training.

Transition for Meaningful Engagement

Transition for Meaningful Engagement provides supports for members with complex medical conditions to secure employment or meaningful engagement.

Veteran Employment Program

The Veteran Employment Program website provides advice and links to resources and support for veterans, their partners and employers.

Ongoing responsibilities

ADF members continue to have a responsibility to protect Defence's official information, assets and intellectual property, after separation. They also must consider if there will be any potential for real or perceived conflict of interest when taking up employment with a private sector organisation.
