1800-IMSICK is a national 24-hour call service providing health support for all ADF personnel within Australia if they become ill or injured after hours or are not in close proximity to an on-base health facility.
1800-IMSICK is not an emergency number. In an emergency dial 000.
The 1800-IMSICK service cannot provide approval for sick leave. ADF members must seek approval from Command for sick leave and/or advise if they will not be presenting for duty.
Calls will be answered by 'call handlers' who are registered nurses. To best assist each caller, the handler will ask for personal identification and geographical information, including:
- name
- date of birth
- PMKeyS number
- base, unit and location
- phone contact details.
Depending on the health issue, potential outcomes of the call may include advice on:
- self-care
- attending an on-base or off-base health care facility
- referral to an emergency department.
If referred to a health care service provider or facility, location and contact details can be delivered to callers via SMS.
