In 2011 the Minister for Defence Hon Stephen Smith announced a Force Posture Review to assess whether the Australian Defence Force is positioned to meet Australia’s current and future strategic challenges.
The Department of Defence undertook the review with oversight by an expert panel. The panel included two renowned Australian national security specialists:
- Dr Allan Hawke
- Mr Ric Smith AO PSM.
The review was released in 2012.
