The former Naval Fuel Installation at Stokes Hill is in surplus to Defence requirements and will be divested in accordance with the Commonwealth Property Disposal Policy.
The property is located at 2 Frances Bay Drive, Darwin, Northern Territory.
2024 update
Defence completed all environment and heritage due diligence assessments for the site in accordance with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Defence shared the outcomes of these reports with the Northern Territory Government to help inform the decision about potential acquisition of the site.
Consistent with the Australian Government’s commitment in the Darwin City Deal, Defence continues to work with the Territory Government to facilitate unlocking the potential of the former Naval Fuel Installation at Stokes Hill, while preserving its significance for the Traditional Custodians, the Larrakia people.
Defence is aware that the Territory Government is in the process of developing a masterplan for the foreshore precinct which will include potential redevelopment of the Stokes Hill site. This consultation process involves City Deal partners and the Larrakia people.
This masterplan will take into account:
- the cultural significance of the site to the Larrakia people
- historic heritage values
- environmental management
- opportunities to further activate the foreshore.
