RAAF Base Learmonth Redevelopment

Overview

RAAF Base Learmonth Redevelopment Enabling KC 30A Operations Exmouth WA project is to upgrade the airfield to meet Defence requirements for the support of KC-30A operations and to improve airfield resilience.

Community information

Consultation will occur with the civilian airport operator, Regional Airport Management Services, who operate the civilian terminal at RAAF Base Learmonth for the Exmouth Shire Council.

An Airside Method of Working Plan will seek to minimise impacts on aircraft operations, including emergency services providers (such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service), and civil airlines.

Project details

This project proposes to:

  • strengthen the runway and parallel taxiway
  • construct new connecting taxiways
  • replacement of associated airfield lighting.
  • construct dedicated parking aprons, for KC-30A and other large aircraft, to support the loading and unloading of cargo and explosive ordnance. Aprons will incorporate high-volume in-ground hydrant refuelling points.

A programmatic approach is being used to deliver this Project in conjunction with National Airfields Capital Works - Western Australia.

Indicative timeline for Parliamentary Works Committee approval is Q2 2024. Subject to Parliamentary Approval, works will be completed by the end of 2028.

CPB Contractors has been selected for the provision of constructability advice and staging advice for the Airside Method of Working Plan in the development phase.
