Overview
The purpose of the National Airfields Capital Works – Queensland (QLD) project is to provide major maintenance of aircraft pavements and airfield lighting at RAAF Townsville in QLD.
Parliamentary Works Committee repetitive works exemption approval was granted in Quarter 1 2024
Community information
An Airside Method of Working Plan was developed in conjunction with the civilian airport operator, Townsville Airport Pty Ltd (TAPL), which seeks to minimise the impact on airline operations.
TAPL have undertaken ongoing engagement with airlines, airport users, government representatives and community representatives.
Project details
This project will resurface selected end of life aircraft pavements and replace associated airfield lighting. Works are scheduled between 2025 and 2027.
The project will be delivered concurrently with previously approved projects at RAAF Townsville:
- P0006 (approved on 19 March 2015) involving runway and taxiway maintenance works
- AIR7000 Phase 2B (expediency achieved on 4 March 2015) involving a 406 metre runway extension and other airfield works to support P-8A Poseidon aircraft operations.
Delivery phase agreement between Defence and Fulton Hogan achieved, with early works commenced August 2025.
