Overview
The aim of the Guided Weapons Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Storage Program is to expand explosive ordnance storage and non-explosive goods storage at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills through the provision of new purpose designed explosive ordnance storage facilities and associated infrastructure upgrades.
Community information
Defence recognises the importance of providing residents, statutory authorities and other interested stakeholders with an opportunity to provide input into, or raise concerns relating to, the project.
As part of Defence’s ongoing community consultation strategy, federal and state parliamentary members, local office holders and a range of local community and industry groups and representatives will be consulted on the proposed works.
Defence will conduct a community information forum to outline the project and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Information and displays outlining the proposed works will also be available.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works also invites public online submissions in relation to the project by Tuesday 30 July 2024.
Project details
The scope of works includes:
- construction of a minimum 14 climate-controlled earth covered buildings
- a non-explosive ordnance store
- material handling equipment building
- non-explosive dangerous goods stores
- infrastructure upgrades to support the proposed facilities.
PWC referral is anticipated for end of June 2024 with approval by August 2024. Construction will commence early 2025 pending Parliamentary approval.
