Staging and Support Base Rockhampton

About the base

The Staging and Support Base Rockhampton Base Support Area extends from Mackay in the north to Biloela in the south and west to Blackwater. This base serves as the main staging area for units training at Shoalwater Bay Training Area. It is located on approximately 39 hectares of land at 68 Western Street, Rockhampton, and is approximately 40 minutes or 75 km away from the Shoalwater Bay Training Area.

Access

Visitors without a Defence Common Access Card will need to enter via Western Street. Heavy vehicles must use the Canoona Road entrance. Prior arrangements must be made to access the base.

Visiting hours

The base is open only on weekdays, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The base is not open on weekends or public holidays unless Army Reserve or cadet activities are occurring.

Road rules

The speed limit on the base is 40 km/h unless there are different signs indicating otherwise. When passing groups of people, make sure to keep your speed under 10 km/h.

Hazards

There are numerous hazards detailed within the pages of the National Base Induction - visitors must remain vigilant, exercise caution and follow all instructions of their escorting officer. Hazardous substances must not be brought onto base or used without prior authorisation.

Sirens will communicate information about the base security status and procedures. In the event you hear any of the following emergency warning tones, stop what you are doing immediately and follow the direction of your escort or ECO Warden. In the absence of direction, follow the procedures below and those detailed in the following pages of the National Base Induction.

Alert

‘beep, beep, beep’ tone + ‘alert alert alert’ voice command

Prepare to receive direction and maintain awareness.

Evacuation

‘whoop, whoop, whoop’ tone + ‘evacuate, evacuate, evacuate’ voice command

Exit building and assemble at predetermined assembly area. Remain at assembly area and await further direction.

Lockdown

Rapid short ‘beeping’ tone + ‘lockdown, lockdown, lockdown’ voice command

Follow the CLOSE procedure.

  • Close windows, blinds, doors and turn off lights.
  • Lock computers and put documents away.
  • Out-of-sight and minimise movement.
  • Stay silent and turn off phones.
  • Endure and maintain.

Stand down

Low-pitched ‘buzzing’ tone + ‘stand-down, stand-down, stand-down’ voice command

Resume normal activities.
