About the base
An operational joint civil-military airfield. The base has administrative, accommodation, recreational and operational support facilities as well as technical workshops, aircraft hardstands and aircraft pavements.
In addition to civil aircraft operations, the airfield supports both Australian and international military aircraft operations.
Access
All vehicles are to access the base via the Main Gates located at Amaroo Road (off Stuart Highway) unless otherwise directed.
Airside access to authorised persons only. Point of contact for full airside access and training is via dar.airsideaccess@defence.gov.au. Please request airside access training two weeks before required.
Airside is patrolled by Military Working Dogs and personnel are to follow all instructions from the handler.
Airside stop - southern perimeter road. Vehicles must observe stop signs on the southern perimeter road, parallel to Stuart Hwy. Stop and look for aircraft departing or landing. When an aircraft is observed, remain in place until aircraft has cleared the area.
Base Induction is required to be completed before gaining entry to the Base. The induction is valid for 12 months and must be completed annually. All are to keep an electronic or hardcopy evidence of completion.
Access to the base will only be granted to people who have also satisfied Defence security pass procedures.
Visitor’s without a Defence Common Access Card (DCAC) must report to the pass office and be signed in and escorted by their escort / host.
Taxis and food delivery are not permitted. Drop off / pick up is at the front gate. Couriers / Delivery drivers are to be escorted at all times unless they are holders of a current Defence ID pass.
No plant material or animals, with the exception of licensed assistance dogs with prior approval, are permitted to be brought on base.
Before entering any Resident Unit controlled area all persons must attend the Resident Unit guard room, or equivalent reception area, to obtain authority to enter and receive further induction.
Construction sites
Be aware of redirection of traffic flow & changes to speed limit at construction sites, obey all signage and traffic controller directions. Personnel must not enter any construction sites without completing the onsite induction and authorisation to enter.
Road rules
Speed limit is 40km/h throughout the base unless otherwise signposted and 10km/h in carparks and not to exceed 10km/h when overtaking formed military members. Be aware that traffic conditions may change at any time due to works and other activities.

Asbestos |
Base Wide - present as part, or within, the Building fabric, as constituent parts of equipment or weapons platforms and on or buried beneath the ground. |
Where reasonably practicable, known Asbestos is signed or labelled. Where undisturbed, Asbestos poses little risk of exposure to humans and thus little risk of adverse health impact. The risk of Asbestos exposure increases if unauthorised works are conducted. If unsure stop work immediately, isolate the area and contact Base Services Support Centre on 1300 658 975 for advice and support |

Drivers must slow down and exercise extreme caution when driving through low lit areas. Pedestrians must also be cautious by following formed paths and wearing light coloured or high visibility clothing. |
Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) | Base wide | UXO may be highly unstable and dangerous with the potential to cause extreme harm and damage. Items such as bullets, spent cartridges or other objects of a military nature must not be handled or disturbed. If a UXO is found, or suspected, remove yourself and others from the immediate area and immediately contact ABCP (08) 8923 8888. |
Per-and-Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) | Soil Base wide | Sites where there has been historic use of legacy fire-fighting foams. Minimise exposure wherever possible. Soil testing is to be conducted prior to work. |
Sirens will communicate information about the base security status and procedures. In the event you hear any of the following emergency warning tones, stop what you are doing immediately and follow the direction of your escort or ECO Warden. In the absence of direction, follow the procedures below and those detailed in the following pages of the National Base Induction.
