National Unexploded Ordnance Program

Defence's National Unexploded Ordnance Program (NUXOP) provides strategic management and remediation of unexploded ordnance (UXO) on the Defence estate. UXO is ammunition which has been fired but has not exploded as designed.

The program is also responsible for coordinating Defence's responsibilities under the Commonwealth Policy on the Management of Land in Australia Affected by Unexploded Ordnance.

NUXOP provides advice, implements and monitors progress of Defence UXO initiatives and maintains records to support the management of UXO hazards of the Defence estate.

Visit the UXO website for:

  • Steps to follow when a potential UXO is found.
  • Access to the UXO mapping application.
  • Information about specialist UXO companies.
