Rizzo Review

Reform of Amphibious and Afloat Support Ship Repair and Management Practices

The Review has now concluded and the Plan to Reform Support Ship Repair and Management Practices [1.9MB] , which led to the early decommissioning of HMAS Manoora and the extended unavailability of HMAS Kanimbla, has been produced.

The Naval Engineering Future State Blueprint [PDF 6.3MB] and the Naval Engineering Strategic Plan 2013-17 [PDF 2.5MB] are also available.

The review also considered how its proposed reforms should be applied to other naval vessels and the maintenance concept for the Air Warfare Destroyer and Landing Helicopter Docks. The review was conducted by an independent external reviewer, Mr Paul Rizzo who was supported by Air Vice Marshall Neil Smith (Rtd) and Rear Admiral Brian Adams (Rtd). The Secretariat was led by Mr Lee Walton.

The team focused on a number of Causal Factors that were identified by the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force and also considered submissions from many interested parties.
