From 2015 to 2020, Task Group Taji was an Australian and New Zealand training contribution to the US led Operation Inherent Resolve.
Through the combined Task Group, Australia and New Zealand trained over 47,000 troops and law enforcement personnel and successfully increased the capability of the Iraqi Security Forces.
Task Group Taji trained and assisted the Iraq School of Infantry, which became the first coalition training facility to operate independently.
Given these achievements, we have handed training responsibilities back to the Government of Iraq and we are now ending our contribution known as Task Group Taji.
We commend the dedication, resilience and ongoing professionalism of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Force personnel who contributed to this Task Group.
Together they were instrumental in increasing the capacity of the Iraq Security Force to defeat Daesh.
Australia remains committed to a united and stable Iraq, and to the global coalition against Daesh.
